FC Pakhtakor Tashkent (Uzbek: «Paxtakor» futbol klubi) is an Uzbek football club, playing in the capital, Tashkent.
The club has been the undisputed powerhouse in Uzbekistan since the fall of the Soviet Union, winning eight Uzbek Oliy League titles, including six in a row from 2002-2007. Pakhtakor has also won the last seven domestic cups, and taking nine cups in total. Players for the club have won Uzbek footballer of the year honours seven times, and Pakhtakor teammates swept the top three spots in 2002. Club managers have been named Uzbek coach of the year twice.
The team is also a perennial competitor in the AFC Champions League, having reached the semi-finals of the competition twice in 2003 and 2004.
Pakhtakor was the only Uzbek club to play in top-level Soviet football league and was the only Central Asian club to appear in a Soviet Cup final.

FC Spartak Moscow
FC Spartak Moscow (Russian: Футбольный клуб «Спартак» Москва) is a football club from Moscow, Russia. They are nicknamed "Meat" because in Soviet era the club was owned by the Collective Production Farms (the kolkhoz and the sovkhoz) .
Spartak have won 12 Soviet championships (second only to Dynamo Kyiv) and 9 of 18 Russian championships. They have also won the Soviet Cup 10 times and the Russian Cup 3 times. Spartak have also reached the semi-finals of all three European club competitions.

As a high-profile sportsman, Starostin came into close contact with Alexander Kosarev, secretary of the Komsomol (Communist Union of Youth) who already had a strong influence on sport and wanted to extend it.[6] In November 1934, with funding from Promkooperatsiia, Kosarev employed Starostin and his brothers to develop his team to make it more powerful. Again the team changed its name, this time to Spartak Moscow.

FK Khazar Lankaran
FK Khazar Lankaran (Azerbaijani: Xəzər Lənkəran Futbol Klubu) is an Azerbaijani football club based in Lankaran, who play in the Azerbaijan Premier League. In 2008, Rubin won the league championship to qualify for the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League Group stage, making them the easternmost team to play in the competition. Their championship season began with a league record seven consecutive wins, including victories against defending champions Zenit Saint Petersburg. Rubin clinched its first championship in club history and became only the third club from outside Moscow to win the Russian Premier League (after Spartak-Alania Vladikavkaz and Zenit St Petersburg).
On 20 October 2009, Rubin recorded a shock win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League at Camp Nou. This was followed by a 0–0 draw at home two weeks later. Sheriff Tiraspol with the 2009 CIS Cup title
In the 2009/10 season FC Sheriff finally reached the third qualifying round when it defeated Inter Turku. In the next round, FC Sheriff defeated Slavia Prague with an aggregate score of 1-1 over two legs, progressing via the away goal rule due to Jose Nadson's 94th minute strike in the 2nd leg. FC Sheriff were then eliminated from the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League by Greek club Olympiacos CFP in the new Play-offs Round, which is the last stage before the Group Stage proper. FC Sheriff were defeated 2-0 in the first leg, and 1-0 in the second leg.

FC Pyunik refused to play with an Azerbaijani
A big scandal at the tournament occurred in 2006, when the Armenian champion FC Pyunik refused to play with an Azerbaijani team, PFC Neftchi. The team FC Pyunik won the Ukrainian team FC Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 in the quarter-final, when it already knew that in case of victory they will have to play against PFC Neftchi. After the match, they told the referee they wont play against an Azerbaijani team, and already in the evening left Moscow on an airplane. The Russian Football Union gave FC Shakhtar Donetsk a technical victory 3-0 so they could play in the semi-final instead of FC Pyunik, but FC Shakhtar Donetsk declined the offer stating that "...we would really want to play in the semi-final, but we don't want to get there by any other way than sport". Eventually, because no one could play against PFC Neftchi in the next round, PFC Neftchi was right away promoted to the final, where it beat the Lithuanian club FBK Kaunas 4-2.
In 2007 talks began about changing the format of the cup, and uniting it with the Channel One Cup in order to bring back the interest of the Russian and Ukrainian teams, and in 2007 its games were even visited by representetives from FIFA, but nevertheless, nothing came out from those talks and efforts.
In October 2009, Bunyodkor coach Luis Felipe Scolari announced that his Uzbek side would not enter the 2010 tournament due to focusing on the Asian Champions League.
